Coaldale Substation

A little over 2 years ago AVAD realized that to effectively service the full district, some changes needed to be made. As you know, or should know, the district currently runs from the Chaffee/Fremont County boarder through Coaldale and just a short way into the canyon.

While, technically, the current ambulance location at the Howard Volunteer Fire Department facility (HVFD) is rather centrally located, it's still far away from the Coaldale area where about half of our calls come from. The challenge is compounded when the volunteer driver on call lives in the Coaldale area whereby he or she then has to race to the HVFD station to get the ambulance and then return to Coaldale to the scene.

The decision was then made to seek out a location for a new substation in the Coaldale area to allow for quicker response times to that area of the county

Fast forward two-plus years and AVAD has procured a small land purchase of 1.3 acres along CR 45 in Coaldale, a 40 x 60 steel building and, because of a rather nice grant from the State of Colorado, a new ambulance will be shortly on the way.

The plans have been drawn up and approval of the necessary permits are only weeks away. A search is now underway for the contractor to complete the project for us!
